100 employees celebrate five years at BNY Mellon’s Manchester office BNY Mellon the global leader in investment management and investment services is proud to announce that 100 employees at its Manchester office have reached their five year anniversary of employment with the company.

BNY Mellon has had a strong presence in Manchester since September 2005 when it launched at No.1 Piccadilly with just a 50 strong team. Since then, BNY Mellon has created approximately 200 new roles each year and in 2009, it opened a second office at 3 Hardman Street in Spinningfields in order to accommodate this continuing growth.

There are now approximately 1150 BNY Mellon employees in Manchester. Along with Pune, in India, and Pittsburgh, USA, the city is one of the company’s three global growth centres.

Many of the employees celebrating their five year anniversary began their careers in entry level positions and have since progressed to senior roles in the company. One such employee is 27 year old Ross Jones, Head of EMEA Currency Transaction Processing.

Originally appointed as a senior clerk after completing BNY Mellon’s core induction programme, which matches employees with roles according to their skill-sets, Ross quickly made a good impression and soon went on to manage the Liquidity Support team with responsibility for calculating BNY Mellon’s cash balances and communicating them to traders.

His career continued at pace with BNY Mellon Manchester as he managed Reconciliations, Client Static Data and Money Markets and Loans. Ross has continued to grow in his roles and is now Head of EMEA Currency transaction Processing with responsibility for a team of 60.

During his time with BNY Mellon, Ross has also completed the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment’s Investment Administration Qualification (now called Investment Operations Certificate) and in-house learning and development courses on technical and softer skills. Reflecting on his time at BNY Mellon, Ross said: “I joined BNY Mellon because I wanted a job that would give me great opportunities for progression, and I haven’t been disappointed.

“The highlight of my career so far was definitely the Bank of New York and Mellon merger and I’ve been fortunate enough to work on some big projects. I’ve also got to travel as far as India and America. The way my career has moved forward in just five years is proof of just what can be achieved at BNY Mellon and I’m enjoying seeing the latest group of new-starters begin to make progress in their own careers.”

Commenting on the anniversary, Ben Hollister, Chief Administration Officer, said: “These employees have grown as BNY Mellon Manchester has, and the senior positions that many of them hold today is testimony to the career opportunities in the company.

“When BNY Mellon moved to Manchester, we needed to develop a workforce with the skills our business needs. The fact that 100 employees now have 500 years of asset servicing experience between them is testimony to just how far we’ve come. Indeed, by Christmas nearly 200 employees will have been here for five years.

“Our success here is down to the talent and dedication of the employees at our Manchester office, and I look forward to many more of these anniversaries in the coming years.”
