BNY Mellon Manchester employees to take part in 24-hour spinathon to support Help for Heroes
It is hoped that the day will raise £3,000 for military charity Help for Heroes, which supports injured servicemen and women.
The team will be lead by Group Manager Adam Palliser,29, from Cheshire, who joined BNY Mellon after a successful six year Army career in which he served as a Captain in the Rifles Regiment .
Sixteen exercise bikes will be set up in the atrium of No.1 Piccadilly from 5.00pm on the 30th June to 5.00pm on the 31st June. Adam is aiming to spin for the full 24 hours and will be joined by colleagues throughout the day.
To help him reach his sponsorship target, BNY Mellon will also be holding a ‘dress down’ Friday, and employees will each pay £2.00 for the privilege of swapping their suits for civvies.
Discussing the spinathon, Adam Palliser said: “Anyone who has been to a spinning class will know that cycling solidly for 24 hours will be no mean feat, but I’m confident that with the support of my colleagues I can be able to keep on spinning.
“I chose to support Help for Heroes because I’ve seen first-hand the fantastic work it does to help injured servicemen and I’m sure that when I’m still cycling at 4.00 AM on the 31ST June it will be that thought that gets me through.”
Charity work and volunteering is a key part of the company’s Community Partnership policy with employees encouraged to make use of their two paid volunteering days per year. In Manchester alone, BNY Mellon employees aim to have completed 4000 volunteering hours before the end of 2011. During this year’s Volunteering Week, employees from across the business participated in a range of activities with organizations such as the Salford Foundation.
BNY Mellon has had a presence in Manchester since September 2005 when it launched at No.1 Piccadilly with just a 50 strong team. Since then, BNY Mellon has on average created around 200 new roles every year. In 2009, it opened a second office at 3 Hardman Street in Spinningfields to accommodate this continuing growth.
