BNY Mellon appoints new head to lead expansion of Manchester and Northern region operations

BNY Mellon appoints new head to lead expansion of Manchester and Northern region operations Global investment management and investment services company BNY Mellon has announced the appointment of Steve Hayes-Allen as Regional Head – Northern UK and Manchester Site Executive.

The newly created position will see Steve head up the 1,100-strong team and lead the continued development of BNY Mellon in Manchester as one of the company’s three global growth centres, alongside Pittsburgh in the US and Pune in India.

Steve will also chair the Manchester Executive Committee which represents the heads of the major international business lines serviced out of Manchester and local business partners who provide support functions.

His appointment follows the retirement of former Head of Manchester Operations, Jackie Williams, who over the past six years, helped build Manchester into a global centre of excellence supporting 17 international business lines.

Since 2005 the organisation has opened two offices in No1 Piccadilly and 3 Hardman Street in Spinningfields and on average has created over 200 new roles every year.

Steve’s career in financial services spans two decades, and he has held a number of senior positions within BNY Mellon over the past 10 years, most recently as Head of Performance Operations for Asset Servicing EMEA, based in BNY Mellon’s Leeds office.

His role will also see Steve become Chairman of the new Northern UK Regional Committee which will, in addition to Manchester, encompass BNY Mellon’s operations in Liverpool, where it employs 220 people and Leeds where 110 employees are based.

Steve will work closely with senior management to ensure consistency and best practices are shared across these three locations, including employee engagement, business partner support, business continuity and crisis management planning, CSR and external affairs.

Commenting on his appointment, Steve said: “BNY Mellon’s Northern English offices continue to play a crucial role in supporting the organisation’s rapid expansion. The Manchester site has quickly proven itself as a true global growth centre delivering exceptional performance and the highest standards of client service.

“In a short space of time BNY Mellon has established itself in the fabric of the city and Jackie has helped to establish a strong platform from which I can work with the excellent senior management team to move into the next phase.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all of the contacts we have forged in the public and private sectors, within academic institutions and in the wider community, and am committed to working with them over the coming months and years to ensure BNY Mellon continues to play a key role in the ongoing development of the city.”

BNY Mellon has a strong volunteering culture and all employees have the opportunity to participate in two paid volunteering days per year.

The business is aiming to have 4000 hours of volunteering completed in Manchester by the end of 2011 and so far over 1200 hours have been donated. Their focus is on supporting “powering potential” charities – organisations that provide beneficiaries with the skills they need to make a difference to their own lives.
