BNY Mellon celebrates five years of growth and success in Manchester
September saw BNY Mellon celebrate the fifth anniversary of it opening a major operation in Manchester, a move which been one of the largest recent inward investments in the city. BNY Mellon is a leading asset management and securities services company which helps its clients manage and move their financial assets around the world.
It selected Manchester to be a major global growth centre, a decision which has seen it open two offices in the city and create nearly 1,000 jobs over the last five years.
To celebrate this and other achievements, BNY Mellon held a reception at Manchester Town Hall which was attended by senior global BNY Mellon management, clients, and partners from across the public, private and academic sectors.
Manchester City Council’s Sir Howard Bernstein and Sir Richard Leese both addressed the assembled guests and emphasised the importance of BNY Mellon’s presence to the continuing development of Manchester’s financial services industry and the city’s profile on the international stage.
Special guest on the evening was Gerald Hassell, president of BNY Mellon who was present at the launch of the office in September 2005 and who made special efforts to be at the 5th anniversary celebration.
Gerald said: “Manchester has exceeded our expectations as a place to do business. The support we’ve had from our friends in the City Council, universities and from across all sections of the community has played a major role in the operation becoming a great success in such a short time.
“What stands out for me is the quality and enthusiasm of the employees here in Manchester. They are fully focused on delivering the highest level of service, and the feedback I’ve had from clients shows that this approach is why BNY Mellon is such a success here and around the world.
“We’re completely committed to Manchester as a location to support our ongoing global growth and expect to continue developing and creating new career opportunities here over the next five years and beyond.”
Jackie Williams, Managing Director of the Manchester operation said: “Five years have flown by and it feels that we’ve gone from our first 50 employees in 2005 to a twin site operation with nearly 1,000 employees in the blink of an eye.
“During that time we’ve been privileged to enjoy the unwavering support of senior management within BNY Mellon and the local community here in Manchester.
“It’s with immense pride that we look forward to the continuing development of our Manchester operations and we will continue to strive to be an excellent employer which makes every effort to contribute to the wider community around it.”
As the only securities servicing business in Manchester, BNY Mellon has pioneered a number of learning and development programmes to enhance the knowledge and skill-set of its employees.
This has seen the company secure two National Training Awards, the highest accolade in the field of training across both public and private sectors in the UK.
BNY Mellon is continuing to recruit for a wide range of positions in its offices at No1 Piccadilly and 3 Hardman Street in Spinningfields. It’s expected that it will reach the milestone of 1000 employees over the next few months.
The Manchester team has also been highly active in the community, dedicating over 1,500 hours of employee time to local projects and, this year alone, raising over £100,000 through team-led fundraising and corporate donations.
