BNY Mellon gets one step closer to 4000 volunteering hours

16 Employees from BNY Mellon’s Manchester office have contributed 98 hours of their time to support this year’s Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June).

From 1-6 June, in conjunction with Salford Foundation, employees from across the business participated in a range of activities for many different causes within the local Manchester community.

These included painting classrooms for local schools, running business workshops, accompanying young people on a visit to a Territorial Army base and providing admin support to the Seashell Trust in Cheadle which is a Royal School for people with hearing and communication disorders.

BNY Mellon has a strong volunteering culture where all employees have the opportunity to participate in two paid volunteering days per year.

BNY Mellon Manchester is aiming to contribute 4000 hours of volunteering to Manchester charities by the end of 2011 and have so far this year donated 896 hours.

Working with Salford Foundation is part of BNY Mellon’s commitment to supporting “powering potential” charities – organisations that provide beneficiaries with the skills they need to make a difference to their own lives and realise their potential.

Jackie Williams, managing director of BNY Mellon Manchester said: “By donating our time we believe that BNY Mellon Manchester can make a tangible difference to the local community.

“Volunteers’ Week is an excellent opportunity for our employees to become involved with many different charitable causes and we are sure that this level of support will continue throughout 2011.”

Peter Collins CBE, Chief Executive from Salford Foundation said: “The support from BNY Mellon will have a significant impact on young people in the area.

“The company’s commitment to give up so many employees’ hours is commendable and it is a great way to mark the 2011 Volunteers’ Week.”

Volunteers’ Week is an annual event which celebrates the contribution that volunteers regularly make across the UK, and subsequently inspires others to get involved.
