In addition, Ben will act as a trustee for the Salford Foundation, one of several local charities that BNY Mellon supports.

Prior to moving into the commercial sector, Ben spent 16 successful years in the British Army. After passing out of Sandhurst Royal Military Academy he progressed to a Brigade Chief of Staff role, overseeing 7,500 soldiers on operations.

In 2003 and 2007 respectively, he was awarded the Military Cross (MC) for ‘gallantry and leadership’ and an MBE for ‘inspirational leadership’ during his service in Iraq.

On leaving the Army, Ben worked for the Forensic Science Service leading the creation of new International Business in UAE, before becoming a negotiation consultant servicing a range of companies across the Retail, FMCG, Professional Services and Technology sectors

Commenting on his appointment, Ben said:

“Over the past six years, BNY Mellon has been one of Manchester’s great success stories. My role will be to further build on these achievements, overseeing the development of our workforce and presence in the city.

“My principal objective is to further increase BNY Mellon’s appeal as an employer of choice, and develop our links with the local business community and local charities; as one of the city’s largest employers, there is a real opportunity for us to make a positive impact. I’ve been impressed by the talent and enthusiasm of the employees in the Manchester office, and I will ensure that the success story continues”

BNY Mellon Manchester opened at One Piccadilly Gardens in September 2005 with just a 50-strong team. Since then, BNY Mellon has on average created 200 new roles every year, and it now has 1,100 employees. In 2009 it opened a second office at 3 Hardman Street in Spinningfields to accommodate this continuing growth, and as headcount has increased, it has expanded onto an additional floor in April of this year.
